How did the English language get its Greek roots?

I understand that during the time where William, Duke of Normandy conquered Britain, French was incorportated and so was Latin. Also, Latin helped form seperate language. (French being one of them, Spanish, Italian, etc.) Also people have come to England and helped teach Latin and such. I understand that, but what about the Greek language. Many common prefixes and suffixes are Greek terms.

A lot came through Latin, that had strongly been influenced by Greek.
A second wave came during the times of Humanism, when the classic Latin and Greek texts were rediscovered and found their way into the newly developing languages.
