How to cook plain chicken breasts in a slow cooker?

I like to have cooked chicken breasts on hand to cut up and throw in pastas, salads, etc. I love my slow cooker, but I’ve only cooked chicken breasts in sauces before. Obviously I can’t just throw them in there dry, right? So, how do I cook plain chicken breasts in a slow cooker?

Brine them first. Soak them in a salt water mixture of 1 quart water to 1/4 cup table salt (or 1/2 cup kosher salt) for 3-4 hours or overnight. Then throw them in the crock pot on low with some low sodium chicken broth and some butter. They’ll be great for pasta, salad, etc., and there won’t be any seasonings that might clash with whatever dish you’re making.
